Mathieu Becquerelle

At the age of 5, his parents took Mathieu to his first piano lesson, and from this moment on, he has been seen behind the keyboard. Trained at the Conservatoire de Marseille, he won the Premier Prix d’Art Lyrique. He started his career by joining Les Carboni with the show Un de la Canebière. After performing with Les Tréteaux de France and twice at the Festival d’Avignon, the show came to Paris at Théâtre 14, and was also broadcast on French national television.
With Les Carboni, Mathieu was part of the original cast of L’incroyable destin de René Sarvil, which was performed at the Théâtre des Carmes for the Festival d’Avignon 2011. Mathieu regularly performs with the a cappella vocal group Les Voix Animées, directed by Luc Coadou in Toulon. In 2012, Mathieu joined the cast of the Broadway musical Sister Act at the Théâtre Mogador in Paris. Mathieu worked as assistant director on Songs For A New World in the fall 2013 with the group AMTLive. As a pianist, Mathieu accompanied singers Maurane and Clara Guipont on France 2 in February 2014.
In March 2014, Mathieu wrote his first show Comme à la maison, including his own songs which he arranged for voice, piano and cello. In July, Mathieu played the role of a « comique-troupier » during WW1 in Le Cabaret Blanche, then wrote his second show in the fall, Je l’ai cherché partout, featurings songs by Michel Legrand. He ended the year by playing in Blanche-Neige & moi, a musical show for kids, in Paris.
In June 2015, he joined the a cappella male sextet Opus Jam as first tenor. Since then, the group has performed in Italy, Switzerland, in London, in several jazz festivals in France but also for the closing ceremony of the Festival de Cannes 2016, as guests of Ibrahim Maalouf. He also created the role of Kay in the English show King Arthur, the Sword from the Stone in the spring 2016 for the troupe Théâtre En Anglais.
